The special medical lane commonly known as “Fast Lane” at the San Ysidro border crossing has been relocated and is now more accesible and easier to take. The new Fast Lane access is through the Paseo de los Héroes Avenue in Tijuana, currently the main avenue in Tijuana and the most important artery of Zona Rio, the financial and medical district of Tijuana.
This program operated by the Tijuana authorities, was created to help medical tourists visiting Tijuana and allow international patients of registered Mexican doctors to avoid long border wait times when crossing to San Diego through this special lane.
Back in 2019, the program expanded to also include other kinds of tourists. Still, a vast majority of the users of the Fast lane are medical tourists.
Waiting times at the Fast Lae range from 15 to 20 minutes.
The “Fast Lane” requires a single-use pass, available through authorized medical offices and chambers of commerce. At ProgenCell we have been part of this program since its creation and the Fast Lane pass has been offered to our foreign patients coming from San Diego California as one of the multiple benefits of taking part of the full ProgenCell Experience.
According to official statistic from the Tijuana authorities in 2019, around 262,000 passes were issued, compared to 2018 when 121,000 were issued.
Each person must show the pass at a booth, now in the far-left side of the border crossing, to be scanned by officials.
The relocation was due to the upcoming opening of eight new northbound lanes at the left side of the San Ysidro port of entry. Authorities took advantage of the new border infrastructure to seek easier access for Fast Lane users.
