The best place to get sick is in a hospital

The German word for “hospital” gives us the unvarnished truth: Krankenhaus, the place where sick people dwell. Its very purpose is to collect up every sort of medical problem and let them stew together. You will find more germs and viruses and bacteria there than you will on a city street, which is why hospital administrators are at pains to sanitize as much as they can.

Three times is the charm

Over the twelve years that we have been helping people with stem cell therapy in Tijuana, we have noticed an interesting phenomenon in our patients’ recoveries. With every treatment, the patient’s bone marrow produces more stem cells than it did the time before.
For the first treatment, we have measured an average of 8,520,000 units per milliliter.

Concern for our patients’ safety begins at the front door.

Many people have told us that going beyond their hometown for medical attention puts them out of their comfort zone. They don’t know what to expect, especially in a foreign country, so they naturally expect the worst – beginning with all the “don’t drink the water” stories.
We at ProgenCell would like to put everyone’s minds at ease.

How to age gracefully

“As you get older, you keep doing the same things you’ve always done,” Dr. Norman Simmons liked to say, “you just do them slower.”
Even in the best of circumstances – without suffering catastrophic illnesses such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s diseases – the body simply runs down. That’s just a fact of life. As each biological system begins to fail,

How does the body heal itself?

In a video interview, Luis Romero Guerra, M.D., talks about the magic of the human body.
The way in which the human body heals itself, or renews itself, or regenerates itself, is through its stem cells. Tissues, organs, and stem cells are found throughout the body. Organs and tissues that have sustained damage or that are being damaged for one reason or another make use of nearby stem cells.

Stem cell Snake Oil

The folks at CBS’s 60 Minutes have been up in arms the last couple of years about fraud being perpetrated in the name of stem cells. They are right to do so, of course, but their stridency and their unwillingness to report the many successes of these evolving techniques do a great disservice to the millions of people who can be benefitted by effectively applied stem cell therapies.

Do you need a passport to visit ProgenCell?

Ever since the United States began tightening up travel for its citizens, patients from the U.S. have worried about  getting treated because of the delays involved in getting a passport to leave the country. Some of that worry is misplaced. You don’t really need a passport to leave your own country and you don’t need a passport to visit Tijuana.

A quick tour of the ProgenCell clinic

For those who have never been to Tijuana – and for those who only know Tijuana as Avenida Revolución – a visit to ProgenCell can be surprising. We’re on the second floor of a modern commercial complex a block away from CECUT, Tijuana’s world-famous cultural center. You’re greeted at the reception desk at the end [...]

A word about our professional associations

Philosophers and scientists throughout the ages have emphasized the importance of working in concert with others. Bernard of Chartres and Sir Isaac Newton described what we do as “standing on the shoulders of giants”. We at ProgenCell belong to many professional associations for this very reason. By working with others in our field, we learn about the discoveries of others and we are continually challenged to improve our own work.

Why do we use autologous bone marrow stem cells in our therapy?

Stem cells are found in many parts of the body. Your doctor exercises professional judgment in deciding which ones are to be used and how they are to be applied. We at ProgenCell have found that the stem cells in a patient’s own (“autologous”) bone marrow are generally the best choice, although in rare cases we also make use of stem cells in adipose tissue or cord blood derived from the same patient.
